Marble is a combination of recrystallization of limestone and dolomitic limestones as a result of metomorphism. 90-98% of their combination is formed of CaCO3 (Calcium carbonate). It contains low amount of MgCO3 (Magnesium carbonate). The main mineral in the marbles composed of CaCO3 crystals is "Calcite". Also, silica, feldspar, iron oxide, mica, fluorine and organic substances can be found in small quantities. The colors are usually white and gray. But because of impurities, they may also be in colors such as yellow, pink, red, blue, brown and black. When examined under a microscope, it’s seen to consist of calcite crystals that are tightly interlocked.

 

In industrial sense, all kinds of stone that can be cut and polished are accepted as marble. Regardless of the nature and content of the stone, Regardless of the type of the stone block and the contents could be obtained for larger scale, showing features such as being cut and polished, it is suffice to be considered as marble stone. The rocks derived from the magma like granite, diabase, leucid syenite, fanolite and serpentines, are also included in the definition of marble
